A SummerSpace screen room is a freestanding or home-attached aluminum structure with Phifer TuffScreen mesh panels on all sides and a Tempotest fabric roof overhead. It is permanent — not motorized, not retractable, not temporary. Available in standard sizes, it sits freestanding around your pool, patio, or spa and creates a defined outdoor room where insects cannot enter. Screen rooms cannot be attached to a home.
The sealed FlexScreen edge system eliminates the gaps that standard screen enclosures leave open. The result is not a screened-in porch — it is a room you built around the part of your outdoor space that deserved one.

Two screen grades available: heavy-duty 18x16 mesh for general insect control, and TuffScreen No-See-Um 20x20 mesh — a tighter weave that stops the tiny biting insects that standard screens miss entirely. Capital Region blackfly season runs May through early June. The No-See-Um mesh is the reason you can actually use the screen room during that window.

The roof panel uses Tempotest marine-grade fabric — 24 color and pattern selections, UV-resistant, and rated for outdoor exposure. The same fabric used in SummerSpace awnings and retractable systems. Choose solids, stripes, or textures that coordinate with your home's exterior.

FlexScreen panel edges are sealed against the aluminum frame to eliminate the gaps that standard screen systems leave open. Keeps insects out at the edges where most screen rooms fail — and gives a subtle degree of privacy from neighboring sightlines without blocking the view or the breeze.

The roof structure incorporates vector venting that promotes natural airflow while maintaining structural integrity. The screen room stays cool in summer without trapping heat — which is the failure mode of cheaper enclosed structures that turn into ovens by July.

SummerShield 2604 aluminum powder coating in 8 low-gloss, lightly textured finishes — AAMA 2604-rated, 3,000-hour salt spray tested, UV-inhibited, and anti-microbial infused. The finish holds up through Capital Region winters without fading, chalking, or corroding.

The aluminum deck perimeter kit creates a clean subframe that integrates the screen room floor with your existing or new composite decking — hiding the structural edges and anchoring the frame against wind loads. Available in 4 color selections coordinated with the frame finish.

Integrated ceiling mounting positions for lighting and ceiling fans are built into the roof structure — so the screen room stays comfortable all day and into the evening. No additional structural work required to add a fan or fixture.

Screen rooms are freestanding structures installed around pools, spas, and open yard areas. They are not attached to the home. We assess your site and confirm the best placement at the consultation. We assess your site and confirm the best configuration at the consultation.

What Our Clients Say
We come to your property before the season starts, measure the space, and configure your screen room around how you actually use the yard — pool, patio, spa, or all three.
COMPLETE YOUR OUTDOOR SPACE
A screen room handles the warm months — bugs out, breeze in. A 3 season room handles the shoulder seasons — glass panels added to the same structure close it against rain, wind, and cold. If your screen room needs to run from April through November, the 3 season room is the upgrade path.
Looking for a fully engineered outdoor room with complete weather control rather than a screen enclosure? A StruXure pergola with motorized louvers and Fenetex screens gives you sun, rain, bug, and temperature control as a single integrated system.
Add ceiling-mounted Infratech or Bromic radiant heating to your screen room and the usable season extends significantly. Infrared heats you directly, so a screened space with radiant heat overhead feels warm even when the temperature drops.
Common Questions
A screen room uses screen mesh only — it keeps insects out and lets the breeze through, but offers no protection from cold, rain, or wind. It is a warm-weather product: May through September in the Capital Region. A 3 season room adds tempered glass panels to the same structural system — closing the space against rain and cold in spring and fall, and removing the glass entirely in summer for a fully open-air screen enclosure. If you want to use the space past early October, the 3 season room is the right choice.
Standard TuffScreen uses 18x16 mesh — effective against mosquitoes and most common insects. TuffScreen No-See-Um uses a tighter 20x20 mesh specifically rated to stop the tiny biting insects that standard screens miss, including the blackflies that arrive in Capital Region May. If you are installing a screen room to use during May and early June, No-See-Um mesh is strongly recommended. We can advise on the right choice for your specific use case at the consultation.
Freestanding screen room structures typically require permits in most Capital Region municipalities — they are classified as accessory structures. Attached screen rooms that connect to an existing covered structure may or may not require permits depending on the scope and local code. We review your specific location and configuration at the consultation and advise on any permitting requirements before work begins.
A standard SummerSpace screen room installation typically ranges from $10,000 to $25,000+ depending on size, shape, mesh grade, fabric selection, and site complexity. Pool and spa surrounds at the larger end of the size range run higher. Every quote is fixed-price and based on your exact site measurements — no estimates, no surprises.
Yes — pool and spa surrounds are one of the most common screen room applications. SummerSpace screen rooms are available in rectangle, square, and octagon configurations to fit standard and custom pool footprints. The aluminum frame and SummerShield finish are rated for the humid, chemically-exposed environment around pools and spas. We assess your specific pool surround at the consultation and confirm the right configuration and anchoring approach.
Yes — SummerSpace screen rooms include integrated light and fan bracket mounting positions in the roof structure. No additional structural modification is required. A ceiling fan dramatically improves comfort on warm summer evenings in an enclosed space, and lighting extends use after dark. We include this in the design discussion and quote the electrical work as part of the full installation.
The SummerSpace aluminum frame and SummerShield coating are rated for year-round outdoor exposure. Most homeowners leave the frame in place through winter — the mesh and fabric roof handle freeze-thaw cycling without issue. We recommend a brief annual inspection of the frame hardware and mesh tension in spring before the season starts, and we provide a simple maintenance guide at installation handoff.
Custom-fabricated to your pool, patio, or spa. Sealed FlexScreen edges that stop insects where standard screen rooms fail. SummerShield frame that holds up through twenty Capital Region winters.
